Each day after lunch we learn with our buddy class Room 2. We are helping them learn to spell their essential word list. We had to think - what do they need to do? How will they be successful? We worked out these success criteria - and we found out that we can use these for our spelling too! Way to go Room 15!!
Room 15 have been working on their passion projects. We have been learning about "Ourselves". We have researched something in "Our Community" or something we are passionate about We could present it anyway we wanted. and lots of us decided to publish it as a poster. Some of us made books and others made powerpoint presentations. Come and see our wonderful research presentations.... We love learning!!!!!
Heramaia is really interested in Maori carving. He researched some of the stories and the carving by Ngati Maru. We all enjoyed hearing the stories especially about Ureia - The Taniwha! We even got to look closely at a modern carving of Ureia. Our Passion Projects are teaching all of us some really cool things!
Have a LOOK at some of our learning. We know what our LEARNING INTENTIONS are and then we have workshops where we work together to find out our SUCCESS CRITERIA.
James and Roarke made a great display for their passion project - Where did the Thames families come from? We were in groups of three and we had a great challenge.... The Golden visit to Thames Mrs Lee had a time machine and only one group could zoom back in time and go to Thames at the time of the gold rush. Once there we would be able to get as much gold as we need to get rich (and some for Mrs Lee of course!) But the challenge was... Where was the gold? What date, including the month would we need to go? What was the weather like? What would we need to bring with us? Where there any threats? How much gold would we need to get to become rich? What was it like in Thames in the olden days? Using our research skills we found out lots of the information we needed. We then had to use our presentation skills to present our case. We presented our work in some great powerpoints. Have a look at some of our presentations below. Which group would you choose? (Thanks to questgarden.com and Angela Lee whose fantastic teaching idea was adapted for this unit) WELCOME TO TERM TWO
